Deep Fried Chicken Batter

As with most other meals, the best deep fried chicken batter will be the one that you create on your own. Still, the basic recipe for this classic dish is simple and quick.

To make a perfect deep fried chicken batter, all you really need to do is combine oil with flour, milk, and eggs. If you are going to try and fry something at home, make sure to use a deep pan and exercise caution. If you are going to use an outdoor cooker, be sure to read the instructions thoroughly. While the basic recipe for this type of coating will stay the same no matter what recipe book you decide to use, the small things that you add to the recipe will really make it great.

So, what are some of the things that you can add to any fried chicken recipe? Well, paprika is always a safe bet, so is mustard powder. Then again, some chefs in the south tend to use a lot of buttermilk in place of regular milk. So, as you can see, it really depends upon what your personal tastes are like. If you prefer a hot and spicy chicken, go ahead and add a few drops of hot sauce. If you want something southern and succulent, buttermilk is the way to go. Now, let’s talk about the measurements for a moment.

Begin by putting one half cup of oil in the bottom of a deep skillet. For this recipe, make sure to use vegetable oil not olive oil. Then, mix one cup of flour with one half cup of milk or buttermilk. Finally, add one egg to the mixture and beat it all together well. To make the deep fried chicken batter taste better, add some salt, spices, and pepper to it. Heat up the oil in the skillet, add the chicken carefully, and then dip the chicken into the batter until it is coated well. Finally, add the chicken to the oil and cook until it is golden brown.

If the thought of cooking chicken in a large pot of oil frightens you, the same taste can be gained by placing the coated chicken on a pan under the broiler instead. The idea is to make the chicken nice and crispy no matter how you decide to do it.

You’ll find that this basic deep fried chicken batter is tasty; though (as previously mentioned) adding some ingredients of your own won’t hurt.
