Cooking Snow Crab Legs

Is there such a thing as cooking snow crab legs? Well, not really. You see, this type of seafood is already cooked, so you need to become a heating expert instead.

All types of this seafood are cooked immediately after being caught. This means that no matter how you purchase them, yours will be thoroughly cooked prior to bringing them home (in order to transport them, they must be cooked). While this makes cooking snow crab legs easier, there are some recipes that are just better than others, so before you place them in a pot of boiling water consider the following ideas.

Many times, these legs will contain an excessive amount of water. While this cannot be entirely avoided, the sensation of water dripping down your mouth as you eat is hardly desirable. Instead, think about grilling or broiling them. To bake them, place them upon a sheet of aluminum foil, roll them up in the foil, and poke a small hole at the top for steam to escape. Bake them at 450 degrees for up to ten minutes, or until they are heated throughout. Broiling and grilling this type of seafood will require the same method as baking them, though it is harder to control a grill or broiler, so keep your eye on the meat.

The traditional way of cooking snow crab legs is to steam or boil them, which really requires no more than placing them inside a pot of hot water and allowing them to cook for a few minutes. Also, many people place them inside of the microwave, though this is not recommended (if you care about taste). Once your legs are done heating, you can eat them with a bit of melted butter for a tasty meal. Or, you can find a recipe that uses broken up pieces of the meat and follow the steps accordingly.

There are literally hundreds of ways to prepare this type of seafood, just remember that you are really heating them (not cooking them), so they won’t require a lot of time spent in the oven (or on the grill, broiler, or stove top).

Now that you know all about cooking snow crab legs (well, heating them really) there are endless possibilities. Go ahead and have fun with this seafood, it is one of the easiest types to prepare.
