Cooking Bok Choy

Cooking with bok choy is actually very easy, though many people never attempt to cook it. Since there is no right or wrong way to prepare this vegetable, any of the following methods will work.

This may be the most versatile vegetable on the plant, since you can boil, steam, stir-fry, and even deep-fry it. Cooking with bok choy only requires that you have selected ones that are healthy (choose ones that are green, thick, and lush), and that you prepare it properly. In order to get it ready for any dish, remove the leaves from the stalks, rinse them both, and then cut the leaves in any manner. One of the best ways to cook this vegetable is inside of a wok, though it may require a bit of your attention.

When you place this vegetable in a wok, add a bit of water to ensure that the vegetable is cooked properly. Then, add the other ingredients (soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger work well) to the wok. Most stir-fry’s do not require a set in stone recipe, though it will help to have some type of guide line. The worst thing that you can do is to add too much liquid to this type of dish, since excess liquid will make the leaves soggy. Instead, pay attention to the overall texture of the vegetable in order to be sure that it remains crisp and green.

Overcooking vegetables is an easy thing to do, though you never have to make this mistake if you pay attention to the color. The same thing applies when cooking bok choy – simply make sure that the vegetable remains a vibrant green the entire time. If you find that the leaves are wilting, take it out and place it on the side until the other vegetables within the wok are fully cooked.

As you can see, preparing this vegetable is only a matter of being careful when you prepare this type of vegetable. Never let it get past the vibrant green stage, and you are sure to enjoy it again and again.

Cooking bok choy will provide you with a meal that is packed with lots of nutrients (including fiber and iron) that are needed to live a healthy lifestyle. Follow the tips listed above, and you will soon find that this vegetable is worth preparing numerous times.
