Cooking Fresh Green Beans

Are you just learning to cook? If so, cooking fresh green beans is one of the easiest and most rewarding vegetables that you can prepare.

When vegetables are in season, there is nothing that tastes better. Summertime is the time to select those great beans at any farmer’s market or grocery store in the world. The best way to select these little treasures is to choose ones that are free of any brown spots (also, go ahead and snap one just to be sure that they are crisp). Once you have chosen the best ones that you can find, cooking fresh green beans will be a snap. Below, you will find some great meal preparation ideas.

There is only one thing to watch out for when it comes to cooking any type of green vegetable – do not overcook them. In order to ensure that you are not heating them to oblivion, stop the heat process once they are a vibrant green color. Your beans should still be crisp once they are cooked, so try to avoid that limp and tasteless stage. Also, it is a good idea to salt your water before placing them inside of it.

Now, on to cooking fresh green beans that the whole family will love… The truth is that there is really no bad way to prepare these veggies, though some ways are better than others. One simple way to prepare them is to place them inside of a vegetable steamer, allow them to get to that nice green stage, and add a large pad of butter once they are done. Or, you can steam them and add a splash of olive oil along with a squirt of lemon for a Mediterranean twist. Some people enjoy these veggies cooked inside of a tin foil pocket that has been placed in the over with some balsamic vinegar (cook at 350 for fifteen minutes).

It is easy to see that preparing these great vegetables is really simple to do. In fact, you can cook them any way you like as long as you respect that green color (once you pass this stage, they will be limp and soggy).

When it comes to cooking fresh green beans, there is not right or wrong way to do it. All you have to do is create any type of dish that appeals to you, and place them on the table for all to enjoy.
