Bone in Ham Cooking

When preparing pork, bone in ham cooking is the best way to go. As with most meats, leaving the bones intact will produce a succulent roast every time.

For some reason, our society has become obsessed with slices of meat that have been completely de-boned. However, once you remove all of the structure of a piece of meat, the flavor will go with it. Sure, it’s true that preparing a type of meat that has been de-boned is easier, though you will not impress any guests if you opt for the easy route. Instead, get ready to do some great bone in ham cooking that will knock the socks off anyone that tries this meal.

As a general rule of thumb, you will want to wash your ham prior to cooking it. Due to the way that most types of this meat have been prepared, it tends to be extra salty. Once you have washed it thoroughly, pat it dry with a paper towel and proceed to season it as you see fit. If you are not sure what to put on it, try sticking the meat with cloves and sprinkling it with maple syrup, or you can always try cooking the met inside of Pepsi or Coke (this is a Southern tradition). If you take the time to look around, you will find hundreds of unique recipes that you can play with.

The most important thing to remember when it comes to bone in ham cooking is to cook the meat for at least three hours. This way, the flesh will literally fall apart and melt in your mouth – this is precisely what you want to achieve. In order to do this, place the meat inside of the oven at a low temperature, and cook it until you can slice through the flesh like butter. Once the meat is done, you can slice it up, or serve it whole upon a platter (the presentation is really up to you).

This type of meal goes very well with mashed or baked potatoes, and with some type of lightly steamed vegetables. Of course, no meal would be complete without a sinful dessert, so make sure to whip one up ahead of time.

In every way, bone in ham cooking is the only way to prepare this type of meat. Once you take away that bone, you will be left with a piece of meat that is rather dry and boring.
