Cooking Bratwurst

Though there are many methods of cooking bratwurst out there, there is only one way will ensure that you get that quintessential taste every time.

The best thing about cooking bratwurst is enjoying that “snap” once you bite into them. Since many people tend to overcook these sausages, this sensation will be long gone if they have been cooked for too long. To create the perfect taste, keep in mind the amount of time that they cook will directly impact the flavor, and you shouldn’t have a problem preparing the best possible meal every time.

If you are cooking for a crowd, make sure that you have at least one per person – though most people will eat at least two. To properly prepare them, prick each one with a fork prior to cooking (to avoid any bursting issues), and then place them inside of a heavy skillet with a bit of water in the bottom. Cover the skillet, and let the sausages cook over medium heat until all the water has evaporated. Then, allow them to brown inside of the pan for a few moments (be careful not to char them).

Once they have been browned, you can them add some sliced onions and one cup of beer to the skillet. Allow the sausages to cook in this mixture until the beer has evaporated, then serve warm. This is the best method of cooking bratwurst, and you are guaranteed to have that perfect crunch every time. If you are going to use another recipe, make sure that you never boil these sausages.

For some reason, many people decide to boil them while cooking, though this will only cause them to burst. Instead, keep in mind that the water in the bottom of the pan should only be about 1 inch thick, and always keep that heat on medium (never high). Adding the onions and beer (mentioned above) is not necessary, though it will create a tasty dish overall.

If you try cooking bratwurst in the manner mentioned above, you will find that they are the perfect meal during any part of the day. While most people enjoy this type of meat during the evening hours, they can also make a great alternative to traditional breakfast meats (just serve with potatoes and eggs for a great morning meal). Remember – don’t boil these delicate sausages!
