Turkey Cooking Time

Tired of dry turkey? Well, once you get the right turkey cooking time down to a science, you can say good bye to that dry bird forever.

Far too many Americans sit down to dry Thanksgiving meals every year, though this could all be avoided with just a bit of careful attention. You see, the fact is that there is no such thing as “turkey cooking time.” Even though that package may tell you how long to cook your bird, it can never be entirely accurate. How can this be? Well, each oven and each bird is different, which means that leaving yours in the oven for that recommended amount of time may result in a dry meal.

Instead, try this trick: simply twist one leg of the bird when you think it is about done. If that leg twists easily in your hand, your meal is ready to go on the table. That’s all there is to it. Forget about those thermometers and times, all you really need is your hand. Once that leg comes off, your meat is ready to be picked apart by all that are sitting at your table. Now, let’s talk some true turkey... how do you intend to season your meal?

Unbeknownst to many mothers and grandmothers all over the nation, there is more than just one way to cook that bird. While many have discovered that those Thanksgiving meals can be simply tossed in a deep fryer, there is a better (and healthier) way to prepare that festive meal. This method is called the “maple method” due to the ingredients involved: maple sugar, butter, and salt. Forget about that turkey cooking time, it’s time to make a proper bird instead.

To begin, loosen the skin of the bird with your hand very carefully (without ripping it). Then, melt ˝ stick of butter along with some maple syrup in a dish (about 2 Tbsp. will do). Once that has been completed, dip your fingers into the butter mixture and rub it underneath the skin making sure to reach all parts of the bird. Finally, place it in the oven – you are sure to enjoy every moment of this meal!

Now that we’ve got that turkey cooking time out of the way, and we have gone over other ways to prepare a bird, it’s time to turn your attention towards those lumpy mashed potatoes...
